Amanda Sedgwick’s CD debut in 1997 attracted much attention and was the ”Jazz in Sweden” album of that year. The suite in three movements that she wrote for the album was also her graudation work from The Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where she studied counter point and arranging as well as saxophone. In Volt she builds her own tunes into more expanded compositions and employs different compositonal techniques like twelve-tone series, impressionism and pentatonics. The piece is written for string quartet, wood winds and jazz group, a sort of modern concerto grosso that was recorded live in the studio with all musicians seated in a semi-circle.
